How many mornings have you opened your eyes with that miserable sinking feeling?
The feeling that you’ll have to put yourself through another day of all the challenges and struggles it takes just to survive, you hate it! Another day spent living your life trying to please somebody else.
When did it become okay to give up on living your dreams to become a freelancer knowing it will produce happiness, adventure, and fulfillment in your life? To simply live for the weekend or a couple weeks of vacation?
What if everything you know and understand about living in this world around you today were nothing more than an invisible set of rules created by individuals no smarter than you and me?
And what if these rules and laws you are living by were so outdated they were actually the major stumbling blocks holding you back from living an extraordinary life?

I did, not because I wanted to but because my choices were limited. After owning a bowling center for 4 years which was opened one month before 9/11/2001 Twin Tower Attack on the U.S. wasn’t the best of starts. I was in the process of bankruptcy.
It was mentally hard to deal with because of my belief that your word is your bond and I had let circumstances get the better of me. My family was about to pay dearly for my miscalculations in owning and running a business.
This is when my true journey in life began as I would start my first freelancing side hustle which would later turn out to be a reality awakening to the world around me.
I was down to $800 in the bank, still had a wife and two boys to provide for, and if something didn’t happen soon I had no idea what would transpire in our lives but it wouldn’t be pleasant I was sure.
My wife and I were sitting at the kitchen table when my phone rang, it was an individual who wanted me to go to San Jose, California for a gig for two months. That was fantastic, but I lived in South Carolina how was I going to get to California?
He continued to tell me that I would have to buy a plane ticket to get out there but would be reimbursed the next week. Although he would furnish a rental car once I arrived. I asked if I could have a day before giving a reply and he agreed.
After the call, my wife and I just sat there, we talked, we cried, we prayed because after checking the flight cost it would be nearly $600 leaving $200 in the bank. Plus we’d been married 20 years and I’d never been away for more than a couple of days at the most.
After hours of sitting there it seemed like at the same time we looked up at each other and said, “Let’s do it!”
The hard part was I wouldn’t leave for 4 days which were the most stressful anxiety driven fearful days of my life because of the unknown and how my mind was throwing up all kinds of worst case scenarios you could think of.

Conclusion: This was one of the most stressful and fearful decisions in life we’ve ever made but it has also been the most rewarding. Everything worked out just fine even overcoming a few obstacles that popped up in the process.

LAW #1 –THE LOST ART OF HAPPINESS
LEARN IT! MASTER IT! LIVE IT!
I know you’re anxious and full of doubt about learning how to overcome the fear of failure and your inadequacies of making a success in a side hustle.
Just trying to figure out where to start can trigger the fear of the unknown that grips you like the steel trap jaws of a great white shark and if he doesn’t let go you’re doomed to die in your misery and despair.
You’d be hard pressed for me to believe that happiness can change our successful outcome and eliminate the stress in starting a side hustle, startup business, or changing our outlook in the discontented workplace environment.
But Who Am I To Argue With Proven Science?
That’s why we’ll start with Happiness the cutting-edge neuroscience research being used all over the world to train top executives and business owners to increase their overall productivity in the workplace.
If this research is helping mega corporate leaders to capitalize on their natural ability, to create happiness in their lives, to boost morale, and productivity I’m positive it’ll more than help the average side-hustler to get their new business off the ground and running smoothly.
I personally for some time now have been implementing a number of the suggested practices given and have seen unbelievable results. So much so, I have taught numerous individuals as I have traveled the world these same simple practices. They now see and enjoy the same insane results.
For example the 3-month freelancing gig with INA Corp. where when I walked into the department it was like falling into a rattlesnake pit. The poison of negativity was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
As usual, I walked around shaking hands and introducing myself with a smile on my face but out of the 30 + workers there were 3 shake my hand and say hi and 2 that just flat told me to go to hell and walked off. Plus the supervisor was just as bad.
After discovering that no one including the supervisor had been given a raise in 10 years and were constantly threatened that they’d lose there position if they didn’t produce more I could somewhat understand the negativity. But who’d want to continue to work in that kind of atmosphere, I wouldn’t?
Long story short I turned the happiness mindset up to full and every day would come in shake hands and let my happiness do its magic. When the 3 months was up and I was about to leave, there were approximately 60 people in the plant who came to the department to thank me for my positive happy attitude and showing them happiness was an inside job.
Happiness is a choice and contagious and will spread like wildfire anywhere and at any time if you keep it up. I had told a few of the people what I am showing you on this site and I was informed by one that happiness eventually spread throughout the entire plant and reached top management who broke down and not only gave raises but huge ones.
Was it my happy mindset and attitude that inspired these results, well who’s to say, but I believe so.

Exercise #1 – Write down three things you encounter to be grateful today
These should be three new things each day that come to mind that you are genuinely grateful for? Hey, it’s not that hard just write them down as they come to mind. I’m grateful to be able to be sharing this information with you right now, get my drift?

Exercise #2 – Start journaling just one positive experience you had during the day.
According to Shawn, writing just one positive experience of the day allows your brain to trigger all the areas associated with learning and reliving the experience boost your belief system as well, which teaches your brain that the positive behavior matters.

Exercise #3 – Exercise Daily And Watch Your Health

Even if you hate exercise, Shawn says that a short burst of fun cardio activity (think hula hoops, working in the garden, dancing, or a brisk walk with the dog) works wonders.
Exercise (like hula hooping) is an important key to your morning routine because it literally trains your brain to believe “that your behavior matters,” which carries a lot of positivity into all the other activities throughout your day.
Come on now, when was the last time you tried hula hooping? Do they still make those things?

Exercise #4 – Mindfulness Meditation
Well, this is one that has always bothered me a bit because there are so many different versions. Like breathe and watch your breath go in and out for two minutes. This will allow your brain to focus on one thing at a time and be present in the moment. Oh, it’s proven to be great for relieving stress levels as well. Shawn used this in an experiment with Google employees with great success.
I adopted my own style of a daily routine because I was uncomfortable with the norm, it’s a variation of mindfulness meditation that suites my own personal needs and it’s working great for me.
So, open your mind and take a look, it just may change your life.

Meditation – there are a tremendous number of ways to meditate because it’s become such a personal practice. So, in all honesty, there are probably more than any of us could ever count. My Personal Preference Is Mindfulness Meditation.
Exercise #5 – Express kindness through a text or email.
This is one that really caught me off guard but is said to be the most important of the five: Write a positive email or text a friend, family member, or co-worker every morning giving them praise or thanking them for something they’ve done. Now, how simple is that?
Do this for a different person each day and see how quickly you become known as a positive force in the world around you. Shawn says individuals who do this soon become known as positive leaders with strong social connections–the greatest predictor of long-term happiness.

What just might happen if you start using a daily routine in your life to implement the Art of Happiness and Smiling
When I incorporated this routine into my morning ritual a few years back I saw some great results but didn’t find fantastic results. The only problem was I always felt like something was missing and it wasn’t until I was working a gig in Mexico that I found the missing ingredient.
In Mexico, it seemed to me that there isn’t much of a middle class you’re either upper class or lower class. Hector one of the friendliest people I know asked a few of us to stop by his home after work one day to meet his family and have dinner.
Well, when we arrive and entered his modest dwelling it was to my astonishment that his home had no floors. Yea, he had no flooring it was dirt just like on the outside in the yard. The one thing that was overpowering was how happy his family seemed even though I knew from working with him it was a hard life he was living.
But his kids and wife always had a big ole smile on their face like life was fantastic. At the time I wanted to ask him how they all stayed so happy but for the night I enjoyed the comradery and hospitality given.
The next day at work though was a different story and the first thing that came out of my mouth when he walked in was, “How do you and your family stay so caring and happy in all the hardships you have to bear?
He grinned and said, “By Smiling” and went on to explain even though life was sometimes a hardship they had found the best way to overcome those times was to smile, be happy, and enjoy each other.
Needless to say, he had sparked an interest, could something as simple as putting a smile on one’s face be the missing ingredient I was looking for. As soon as I got back to the hotel I began a in-depth research on smiling and what I discovered was eye-opening and I’m sure it will be to you as well.
Smiling the Power Play to Your Happiness and the Side Hustle Mindset
Botox injections used to suppress the muscles that are involved in producing a smile can’t even hold its effect on your brain back. This was a study on facial feedback seeing if even imitating a smile would work its miracles and sure enough, they actually concluded that your brain’s circuitry for emotions and happiness is activated when you smile.
That means when you smile it triggers powerful neurotransmitters that fire off and open every learning and creativity area in your brain preparing for your success.
When a smile comes across your face real or fake your brain releases neurochemicals (dopamine, serotonin, and endorphin) which begin to flood your body through your bloodstream, party time!
Dopamine is a feel-good chemical that helps regulate the brain’s reward and pleasure centers as well as movement and emotional responses.
Serotonin helps regulate mood, sleep, sexuality, appetite, but also triggers the learning centers in the brain to wake up and get to peak performance immediately for taking in, sorting, and learning new data.
Now I’m not sure about this, no scientific proof, but you think the reason you see all these old guys smiling all the time is that’s all they can do now is let the serotonin that’s released pump up there, well, you know what I mean and if you don’t, never mind? Just a thought.
Endorphins are released in response to pain and stress and help to alleviate anxiety and depression. Plus, it diminishes our perception of pain, it’s our in-house painkiller.
Now, this is awesome, just think, when your ailing you don’t have to go to the pharmacy anymore to fill a prescription for painkillers just keeps a continuous smile on your face.
By smiling, you can start your day healthier, wealthier, and wiser. Well, maybe not wealthier but definitely healthier and wiser.
But that’s good news if you’re struggling with a new side hustle or startup you’ve got everything up there in high gear to overcome the stress and frustrations.

If you’re a “regular person” who wants to be happier and livelier full of enthusiasm but not thinking much about side hustling:
- Enjoy reading about happiness/mindset if you like. Try it, if you’re curious. But you can be a happy fulfilled individual without it.
- Please don’t believe everything you read on the internet. (Except me Happi Pappi and this article, of course.) Remember that the plural of “personal life story” is not “scientific research data”. Be a critical reader and consumer. READER & CONSUMER BEWARE!
If you’re a wanna-be freelancer best to start working on your mindset now so you’ll have a jump on being happy and enthusiastic in the mornings to conquer issues that will inevitably pop-up:
- Know your body and how it functions top to bottom.Unless you understand how and why you react to situations adopting these exercises and strategies probably won’t improve your situation and end results much.
- Don’t add stress. Start re-training your brain and becoming a happier person is a good stress, but still a stressor. Forgiving, being full of kindness to others, and trying to be grateful are also stressors but essential. Stress adds up.
- Make learning the art of happiness your priority. If you’re a pessimistic individual or slightly in that direction right now, you’ll need a little more fuel and patience than the average person. Rather than taking and trying everything out at once incorporate one exercise, strategy, or practice until you feel confident with it then add more good stuff to it.
If you’re already a freelancer with a side hustle you’re a professional, it’s always a good idea to fine tune skills that increase productivity:
- Understand the basics of how feelings, emotions, and thoughts create what your mind interprets and reacts the way it does when these three elements get to churning in the ole brain.
- Know when, how, and for whom positive psychology might be appropriate. If in doubt, learn more from trusted medical and research sources (not an affiliate link) — which, again, does not include random people of the Internets.
- Help the public understand as much as they need to in order to make the best-informed decision they can, with your guidance and information. Your clients and customers will always have questions. Prepare ahead of time with your answers the best you can it makes the journey a lot easier.
- Stay within your scope of practice. Remember: Don’t insinuate your someone you’re not or you can perform in a way you can’t, it will come back to bite you in the butt at the most inappropriate time. Just be honest with customers, clients, and prospects!
- When a happy positive mindset become a habit in your life it will become contagious to everyone you come in contact with. This includes clients and customers whos attitudes toward you will change. They will flock to you and your business just because of the feelings they get by talking and being around you. It’s a very productive habit to have in your arsenal.

- Consider finding a happiness/mindset coach. For this or any other life-changing modification, it helps to get some guidance.
